P

resident Joko "Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Iriana Widodo on Monday welcomed the visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. The leaders will explore possible cooperation in various sectors including innovation and technology.

Jokowi welcomed the Swedish monarchs at the Bogor State Palace in Bogor, West Java. Before beginning their talks, he took the monarchs on a stroll around the palace, which is located near the Bogor Botanical Gardens.

The monarchs will be in Indonesia from Monday to Wednesday during which they will attend various events. Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Johanna Brismar Skoog and a total of 31 representatives from various Swedish companies are also visiting.

According to a press statement issued by the State Palace, the monarchs will have discussions on bilateral agreements with President Jokowi on Monday. On Tuesday, the king and queen will attend a tech event called the Hackhaton "to find a concrete solution to help resolve traffic issues in Jakarta,” the statement read.

Also on the second day, the monarchs will attend a launching of the Indonesia-Sweden Executive Business Forum (ISEF), a forum for businesspeople from the two countries to further enhance business collaboration. They will also visit the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Bandung, West Java, to meet with Indonesians graduating from Swedish universities.

The official tour will conclude on Wednesday with the monarchs attending a seminar held collaboratively between the ITB and Lund University in Sweden. (wit)
