T

he Bogor administration in West Java has been taking measures to ensure the sufficient supply of staple foods in markets across the city during the Ramadhan fasting month.

The measures taken include regular monitoring activities by Bogor administration officials in the markets.

“The supervision activities started since last week with help from the Bogor Police. We can assure residents that the price, supply and stock of staple foods remains stable in the city," Bogor vice mayor Usmar Hariman said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.

Usmar said he had detected a slight increase in prices of several commodities, ranging between Rp 500 (4 US cents) to Rp 1000. "It’s not significant because residents can still afford them," he said.

Usmar said the supervision was important to avoid illegal distribution of staple foods.

Meanwhile, the Central Bogor Police have also intensified their supervision of the two largest traditional markets in the city, namely the Bogor Market and the Kebon Kembang Market.

"Our team inspects these markets in the morning and in the afternoon to check both staple food stocks and the prices of commodities sold to consumers. We are also ensuring that the supply of the commodities will not be disrupted," said Central Bogor Police chief Comr. Gayo Saripuddin. (dea/ebf)
