“The best example is Las Vegas where prostitution is decreasing by the day,” Sandiaga said.
Kalijodo, now a child-friendly integrated open space (RPTRA), came into the media spotlight recently following the return of makeshift buildings in the vicinity, reportedly used for prostitution.
Sandiaga said Kalijodo could be a strategic area for economic activities, which would benefit the people living there. This could happen if the city administration equipped them with necessary basic skills.
Management of Kalijodo could be modelled after Chicago authorities’ effort to eliminate thuggery by reaching out to thugs and embracing them in corporations.
“Within corporations they are taught skills, their talents could be used for our developing economy,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Tuesday.
Sandiaga added that the root of the problem of the return of prostitution and thuggery to Kalijodo was the lack of jobs. (hol)
