akarta deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno has canceled his controversial program to help single Jakartans find love through the Single Jakartans Card and to use popular community parks for ta'aruf Islamic matchmaking.

"It has been reviewed and it turns out this [marital status] stuff is a private realm," Sandiaga said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.

Last month, Sandiaga disclosed the jomblo (single person) card program would be integrated with his other key programs, including zero down payment housing loans and OK OCE entrepreneurship.

He said businesses had presented solutions for single Jakartans.

The presentations revealed there were many digital apps that could be used for matchmaking.

Sandiaga  said his plan to provide space for mass ta'aruf at child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA) would also be canceled.

Earlier, acting Jakarta governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said he would issue a regulation to ban matchmaking conducted at RPTRAs because those were established for children to play. (wnd)
