esearch, Technology and Higher Education Minister Mohamad Nasir says he is optimistic Indonesia’s universities can be more competitive at the global level given the improved rankings of the country’s top campuses in a recently released world’s best university list.

“There has been a significant leap of our campuses in the recent QS [Quacquarelli Symonds] rankings. This result shows that the quality of Indonesia’s universities has continued to improve from year to year,” said Nasir while giving a lecture at Borneo Tarakan University (UBT), North Kalimantan, Thursday.

A QS survey released on Thursday has placed three of Indonesia’s top state universities among the 500 best universities in the world.

The University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok, West Java, ranks 277th in the latest QS survey, rising from 325th  last year. The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta ranked 331st and 402nd, respectively.

The QS World University Rankings 2018 places the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States as the best campus in the world, topping the 10-best universities list, which is dominated by US campuses. The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore ranks 11th on the list, making it the best campus in Asia.  (ebf)
