ogistic company PT Cipta Krida Bahari, a subsidiary of listed energy firm PT ABM Investama, is expanding its business by beginning operations in its fourth bonded zone in Sorong, Papua.
The facility in Sorong, the first to be built in the eastern part of Indonesia, started operations on May 29, following the issuance of a permit by the Customs and Excise Office.
“The operation of the bonded zone in Sorong will create efficiency and make the economy in the region grow faster,” said the Cipta Krida’s president director Iman Sjafei on Thursday in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the company’s chief operating officer, Edi Prayitno Hirsam, claimed the facility, which occupies a 3,700 square meter plot of land, would reduce dwelling time by up to four days and reduce handling costs by up to 60 percent.
Cipta Krida’s chief commercial officer, Erwin Sugianto, said the company invested Rp 25 billion (US$1.88 million) to build bonded zones in Marunda (Jakarta), Surabaya, Semarang, Sorong and Karawang in West Java.
Cipta Krida currently operates four bonded zones located in Cakung, Jakarta; Karawang, West Java; Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; and Sorong in Papua.
The logistic company aims to operate up to 300,000 square meters of bonded zones in 2020. Currently the existing four bonded zones occupy 74,000 square meters of land. (mrc/bbn)
