n Indonesian cargo ship with 15 people on board sank in the busy Malacca Strait on Wednesday, about 20 kilometers off Tanjung Kling, Malaysia.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general Datuk Zulkifili Abu Bakar said that two crew members, the captain and a chef, were still missing, while 13 others had been rescued at 10.00 a.m.

"Our command center in Johor received information from the maritime department that the vessel sank at 9:25 a.m.," Zulkifli said as quoted by Antara.

A leak and bad weather are said to have caused the 53-meter long ship to sink.

"We will investigate this case and our Search and Rescue [SAR] team will keep searching for the two missing crew members," he said.

Malaysian SAR deployed 11 members from MMEA station in Linggi, Negeri Sembilan, with a ship and a helicopter.

Muhammad Abduh, an official at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, said that it was seeking information about the incident.

“The crew is still too shocked to be interviewed,” he said. (yon/ary)
