ight days before the Idul Fitri celebration, the government has opened four flyovers to anticipate gridlock near several railway crossings in Central Java.

One is currently open to the public, while three others will be accessible during emergency situations, according to Wahyu S. Winurseto, a central Java National Road Implementation Work Unit (PJN) official.

"The construction of flyovers in Klonengan is 100 percent complete; in Dermoleng, construction is 98 percent complete; in Kesambi, 90 percent; and in Kretek, it is 80 percent complete," Wahyu said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the 1,011-meter-long Klonengan-Prupuk flyover was constructed by state-owned PT Hutama Karya with a contract value of Rp 112 billion (US$ 8.42 million), while the 650 meter-long Cermoreng-Ketanggunan flyover was built by state-owned PT Adhi Karya with a contract value of Rp 62 billion.

PT Adhi Karya also constructed the 700-meter-long Kretek flyover with a contract value of Rp 82 billion. Meanwhile, the 470-meter Kesambi flyover was constructed by PT Brantas Abipraya for Rp 58 billion.

A dozen passengers were killed last year at the East Brebes toll exit gate, known as "Brexit," after being trapped in traffic jams for nearly two days during the Idul Fitri exodus. Brexit is the main access point for travelers from West Java to Central Java. (yon)
