National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin claimed the improved traffic management was due to officers not encountering the heavy traffic congestion predicted from Thursday evening until early Friday.
“I received a report stating that by 4 a.m. on Friday the traffic flow was not as heavy an anticipated,” he said as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta.
Syafruddin further said that traffic flows peaked from 10 p.m. on Thursday through to 2 a.m. on Friday. Traffic officers managed to ease traffic buildups at several congestion points such as Merak, Banten; Bakauheni, Lampung; and Gilimanuk, Bali, he added.
“They can handle traffic congestion at those points where we met trouble last year,” said Syafruddin.
The crime rate had also been decreasing during this year’s Idul Fitri exodus, he added. “The security condition is also stable as the crime rate has decreased by up to 30 percent from last year,” he said. (ecn/ebf)
