une's trade surplus was partly driven by a decline in oil and gas imports as a result of limited rise in fuel consumption during the Ramadhan and Idul Fitri holiday seasons, during which citizens traditionally travel more and thus jack up fuel purchases, a minister has said.
In June, oil and gas imports decreased by 9.9 percent month on month, or a year-on-year (yoy) decline of 8.8 percent to $1.61 billion, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said the lower consumption of imported fuel was most likely driven by an overall decrease in consumption, because freight trucks were prohibited from operating on Java's major roads during the week-long Idul Fitri holiday.

"During the Idul Fitri holiday this year, diesel consumption dropped by 20 percent compared to a typical month, because trucks did not operate during the holiday. Meanwhile, the consumption of RON 90 gasoline stayed level, the consumption of RON 92 and 95 gasoline increased, but not significantly," he said in Jakarta on Monday.
Jonan explained further that increased oil and gas production at local refineries did not contribute to the decreased oil and gas imports, because their production increase was under 10 percent.
As for the gas supply, he continued, the government had actively asked for more domestic market obligation (DMO) from gas producers to meet increasing demand, in order to reduce the nation’s gas imports.
Indonesia has additional gas supply outputs from several domestic fields such as Jangkrik, Tangguh and Train 3. (ags)
