akarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat has harshly criticized and demanded that a junior high school teacher, who allegedly sent pictures of masturbating woman to his students, be severely punished.

Tri Sutrisno, 25, an English teacher at a private junior high school in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta was arrested by the police near the school compound on Aug. 10, following a report from parents that he allegedly sent photos of a naked woman along with profane texts to at least four female ninth graders through instant messaging service Line.

"Someone like him doesn't deserve to be a teacher. He damages his own children and is unacceptable," Djarot told reporters at City Hall on Monday.

Djarot said that he called on the school to take stern measure against the teacher, whom he deemed had damaged the reputation of educational institutions.

"Strict punishment should be imposed against the teacher. Don't risk further harm to the educational institution, the students or the good teachers out there," Djarot added.

Tri had been charged with violating laws on pornography and child protection as well as the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. (fac)
