esidents of a rusunawa (low-cost apartment) in Tambora, West Jakarta, were in abuzz asking for explanations about the sealing of their residential units on Monday.
“After receiving the sealing letters, the residents came to us asking for clarification,” Tambora low-cost apartment management (UPRS) officer Iin Indrawati said on Tuesday.
Iin said that one of the residents, Santi, objected to the sealing letter issued by the management, which stated she had not paid rent for 20 months. She claimed that she had deposited Rp 550,000 (US$41) into her account at the city-owned Bank DKI. Rusunawa residents are obliged to deposit their rent at Bank DKI.
“The first time we debited with Bank DKI was in February 2015. There has been 31 payment dates for Santi’s residential unit rent between February 2015 and August 2017,” Iin explained.
She added that the payment report for Santi’s bank account had not been regular every month and that paying only Rp 550,000 did not mean Santi was not in arrears.
Iin said the Rp 101,000 monthly rental rate was very low and that the residents were expected to be compliant in fulfilling their responsibility to pay the rent.
On Monday, the UPRS Tambora management sealed 105 residential units whose residents had not paid rent for six months. UPRS Tambora head Sarjoko said 261 were supposed to be sealed after a verification process showed that the residents had not paid rent more than three months. (dra)
