resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has highlighted his government’s achievements in terms of foreign policy, saying his administration actively pushed Myanmar to solve humanitarian conflicts in Rakhine state through inclusive development that respected human rights and protected all communities.

“Indonesia also has hosted around 1,806 immigrants from conflict areas [in various countries], sent humanitarian aid and built schools in Myanmar,” Jokowi said in his state of the nation address at the legislative complex on Wednesday.

He further said Indonesia had also given its full support to push for Palestinian independence, adding that Indonesia had built an honorary consulate in Ramallah, Palestine, to intensify Indonesia’s campaign for Palestinian independence.

“We also always encourage ASEAN and the United Nations to support the cause,” Jokowi said, adding that Indonesia strongly condemned the prayer restriction imposed by Israel at Al Aqsa Mosque in July.

Indonesia has intensified lobbying to help Palestinians, including by asking for international protection at the Al Aqsa complex.

“In terms of economic diplomacy, we continue to move to look for potential in non-traditional markets in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. This year, state-owned train maker INKA has exported 150 trains to Bangladesh,” Jokowi said.

State-owned aircraft maker Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has also exported CN 235 planes to Senegal and Thailand.

Jokowi said the protection of Indonesian citizens, including Indonesian migrant workers abroad, was also a main focus of his government’s foreign policy.
