ports centers, karaoke parlors and movie theaters will be built around 16 traditional markets that are currently undergoing renovations across the capital, according to an official at Jakarta’s traditional market operator.
PD Pasar Jaya president director Arief Nasrudin said the administration planned to finish the renovations by the end of this year.
“We hope that residents will have a more comfortable shopping experience with the revamped traditional markets,” Arief said during the inauguration of newly renovated traditional market Walang Baru in Koja, North Jakarta, on Thursday morning.
The project is being funded by Jakarta’s 2014 city budget, with market requiring around Rp 12.8 billion (US$960,000).
Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat also attended Thursday’s inauguration, saying that vendors should help the administration maintain order and cleanliness at the revitalized markets.
“I entrusted this market to you all. Please keep it clean,” he said.
