aiving the fine for tax arrears, the city administration has booked trillions of rupiah in tax income from East Jakarta residents alone.

By Aug. 30, the East Jakarta municipality collected Rp 1.08 trillion from vehicle ownership tax (PKB).

At the same time, the municipality obtained another Rp 668 billion from vehicle-ownership transfer fees (BBNKB).

"This fine waiver program is effective. We are confident that [the administration's] target this year will be achieved," said M. Taufik Hidayat, East Jakarta's PKB and BBNKB service unit head, as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

Meanwhile, over the same period, the municipality of South Jakarta obtained Rp 2.3 trillion from the PKB, while West Jakarta booked Rp 29.27 billion in revenue from the PKB and the BBNKB.

This includes tax income of Rp 7.6 billion for 207 luxury cars -- vehicles valued at more than Rp 1 billion.

The city administration targets to collect Rp 7.9 trillion in PKB and Rp 5 trillion in BBNKB payments this year.

As of early August, it has collected Rp 4.8 trillion from the PKB and Rp 3.1 trillion from the BBNKB.
