soccer fan died after a heavy firecracker exploded near him during the Indonesia-Fiji friendly soccer match at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi, West Java, on Saturday.

Catur Yuliantono, 32, passed away after he was rushed to Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Bekasi.

"Our sport is facing a big test. During the last minutes [of the match], a firecracker was ignited from the south tribune. It flew to the east tribune. It was fatal," Indonesian Soccer Association secretary-general Ratu Tisha Destria said as quoted by kompas.com.

According to Ratu, the victim was from Duren Sawit in East Jakarta. The victim had come to watch the game with his family.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
