ollowing a rally conducted by North Jakarta residents who demanded free access to Ancol Beach in the north coast of Jakarta, Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said he had requested that the operator of Taman Impian Jaya Ancol amusement park, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, offer residents free access to the beach.

“I have asked [the operator] to let residents visit Ancol Beach freely, but be charged for parking,” Djarot said at City Hall on Friday, as quoted by tempo.co

Dozens of North Jakarta residents staged a rally in front of the west gate of Taman Impian Jaya Ancol in North Jakarta on Thursday, demanding that the beach operator reinstate its policy of offering free access to the beach.

They previously met with Pembangunan Jaya Ancol management to discuss the issue but to no avail.

Pembangunan Jaya Ancol spokesperson Rika Lestari said separately that the company was looking into the matter and would provide an answer soon. “We will discuss this issue again next week,” Rika said. (vny)
