he Bekasi administration is upbeat that once its planned waste-to-energy (WtE) power plants are fully operational, the plants will be able to process all the garbage at Bantar Gebang district's Sumur Batu dump into energy within two years.
Bekasi Environment Agency head Jumhana Luthfi said that the administration had already developed one of the planned five WtE plants.
“The power plant has zero waste technology using a combustion system. The output can be used to power a turbine, which will generate the electricity,” Luthfi said on Sunday.
He added that there would be five power plants, each with a capacity of 29.2 Megawatt hours (MWh).
“When the power plants are fully operational, the mounts of garbage at Sumur Batu can entirely be processed within two years,” said Luthfi, adding that the dump held about 27,000 tons of garbage at present.
He also said the administration was coordinating with state-owned electricity company PT PLN on plans to sell the electricity generated by its WtE plants. (rdi)
