akarta City Council member Prabowo Sunirman of the Gerindra Party has threatened to report the council’s top leader, Prasetio Edi Marsudi, to its ethics council as the latter has reportedly shot down the idea of holding a special plenary meeting to welcome Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his deputy Sandiaga Uno, as instructed to do so by the Home Ministry.

Prabowo said he had sent a letter requesting the special plenary meeting to the council’s speaker on Tuesday. “If he [Prasetio] does not respond to the letter within the next three to four days, we will report him to the ethics council as he made a decision without considering the input of others,” Prabowo said.

According to a Home Ministry circular issued in May, a newly inaugurated governor is obliged to give a speech about their programs at a special plenary meeting in front of their regional legislative council.

The letter also regulates that the plenary meeting shall be held no more than 14 days after the governor’s inauguration.

Anies and Sandiaga were inaugurated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace on Oct. 16.

Prasetio argued that the meeting was neither urgent nor essential as the governor and his deputy had already given speeches on their programs in front of residents at City Hall.

“The leaders have already started working,” the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician said previously.
