alim Perdanakusuma International Airport in East Jakarta could not be used for six hours due to problems with the runway lights on Monday night.
Four flights from the airport were cancelled as a result of the outage.
State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II spokesperson Yado Yarismando told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that the lights were dimmed “due to trouble with its electricity supply at around 7 p.m."
He added that technicians were still investigating the reason behind the malfunction and that periodic maintenance had been done.
Citilink flights to Bali and Yogyakarta and Batik Air flights to Yogyakarta and Makassar were cancelled due to the issue.
“We cooperated with the airlines to give passengers the option of refunding their tickets or diverting their flight to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport [in Tangerang, Banten]. We also gave them snacks and food as compensation for the cancellations,” he said.
Yado also said workers had repaired the lights at around 1 a.m., with the flights resuming normal operations on Tuesday morning. (ecn)
