new record was set in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Malakiri in North Toraja, South Sulawesi, after 17-year-old Resto Thomas Aquino Jehabut was officially named both region’s first and youngest pilot.
His achievements serve as motivation and inspiration for young people across the country who leave their hometown to pursue a brighter future.
Resto, who was born in Timika, Papua, to parents hailing from West Manggarai and Toraja, began his aviation career last year at Genesa Flight Academy, a private flight school in Cilacap, Central Java.
The special opportunity to learn at such a prestigious flight school could not be separated from the hard work and commitment of his parents, Kanisius Jehabut and Cicilia Pawara.
Radio telephony, or procedures in communicating with Air Traffic Control (ACT) towers, was among the subjects he mastered during his studies. Every cadet airline pilot is taught how he or she should communicate with ACT personnel.
With hard work, Resto obtained a 94, or the highest possible score, in his radio telephony exam. (ebf)
