Austrian people living in Indonesia celebrated their National Day with joy on Oct. 27 at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski in Jakarta. Austrian Ambassador to Indonesia Helene Steinhäusl hosted a great, grand gala reception at the hotel to mark the occasion.

“Our relations with Indonesia remain solid and they are constantly growing,” Ambassador Steinhäusl said at the reception.

Indonesia and Austria established their diplomatic relations in 1954. Since then, these relations have been growing by leaps and bounds.

In 2016, bilateral trade between Indonesia and Austria stood at almost US$400 million. Indonesia mainly exports coffee, footwear, spices, garments, rubber and electronic goods to Austria and mainly imports machinery, steel, paper, pharmaceutical products and electronic goods from Vienna.

Indonesia’s Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil was the chief guest at the reception. Newly elected Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno, Foreign Ministry senior officials, scholars, businesspeople, politicians, lawmakers and foreign diplomats also attended the reception.

The reception was sponsored by Austrian companies such as Swarovski, Bank Austria, Zinkpower Austrindo, PT South Pacific Viscose, Waagner Biro Indonesia, Andritz Hydro, Plasser & Theurer and MMS DREAMteam.
