tate Logistics Agency president director Djarot Kusumayakti has said rice stocks stored at the agency’s warehouses are safe until year-end.
“Rice stock as of yesterday [Nov. 19] stood at 1.2 million tons. The stock will [still] be around 1 million tons by December,” he told reporters after attending a food coordination meeting at the Coordinating Economic Ministry on Monday.
Indonesia's rice consumption stands at around 30 million tons every year and the Agriculture Ministry has estimated that 48 million tons of rice was harvested this year.
To control rice prices, the Trade Ministry has applied a mandatory price ceiling for medium and premium rice varieties.

Medium rice will be sold at between Rp 9,450 (70 US cents) per kilogram and Rp 10,250 per kilogram, while premium rice will be sold at between Rp 12,800 per kilogram and Rp 13,600 per kilogram.
Djarot said stocks of corn used for chicken feed, as well as sugar and shallots for public consumption were also safe until year-end. (bbn)
