T

he Jakarta Police traffic unit is preparing to divert traffic in anticipation of heavy congestion during the upcoming 212 anniversary gathering, which will be centered in the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta on Saturday.

To ensure that the gathering does not disrupt the usual flow of traffic, the police plan to reroute vehicles traveling toward Jl. Merdeka Barat and Jl. Merdeka Utara.

Jakarta Police traffic unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto said the changes would take place starting at 11 p.m. on Friday.

Traffic heading from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to Jl. Merdeka Barat will be diverted to Jl. Budi Kemuliaan, Jl. Abdul Muis, Jl. Majapahit or Jl. Harmoni, all in Central Jakarta.

Vehicles heading from Jl. Hayam Wuruk to Jl. Merdeka Barat will be diverted to Jl. Juanda, Jl. Gunung Sahari, Jl. Lapangan Banteng, Jl. Merdeka Timur or Tugu Tani, all in Central Jakarta.

Meanwhile, traffic heading from Jl. Perwira to Jl. Majapahit will be diverted to Jl. Suryo Pranoto, and traffic heading from Jl. Merdeka Timur to Jl. Merdeka Utara will be diverted to Jl. Perwira, Lapangan Banteng or Pasar Baru, all in Central Jakarta.

Budiyanto added that at least 250 traffic personnel would be deployed.

The 212 Rally Alumni organization set up the gathering to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the street protest on Dec. 2, 2016 that called for the prosecution of then Jakarta governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama for blasphemy. (Roi)
