The Jakarta Police have arrested four people allegedly involved in a child trafficking scheme.
South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr, Mardiaz said the four suspects were identified as F, D, DI and S, kompas.com reported.
The 12-year-old victims are street children, Mardiaz said at his office.
"The victims were sold to foreigners living in Indonesia. Those children were recruited by the syndicate to be sold as sex slaves," Mardiaz said.
He went on to explain that the case was uncovered after a parent of one victim reported the case to the Police.
His office then launched an investigation and arrested the four suspects in South Jakarta.
The suspects could be charged for violating the Child Protection Law and the Human Trafficking Law, which could send them to prison for 15 years. (fac)
