The ministry’s land transportation director general, Budi Setyadi said the quota given to Jakarta was the biggest of any city in Indonesia.
“In Jakarta, only around 4,000 online ride-hailing drivers have been registered on our system, so there is a lot of the quota remaining for now. Ride-hailing drivers in Jakarta do not need to worry about not getting the quota for operation,” he said as quoted by Kompas.com.
Budi added that starting from February if online-based drivers wanted to be legally recognized, they should follow the regulation.
Ride-hailing drivers should meet several requirements including putting special stickers issued by the ministry on their cars, conducting vehicle-worthiness tests (KIR) and registering with an online ride-hailing drivers union. The regulation has also set minimum and maximum fares for ride-hailing services.
"From February, online ride-hailing drivers who do not fulfill the requirements will be disciplined,” he said. (roi)
