akarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno plans to give Jakarta ID cards to angkot (public minivan) drivers who participate in the public transportation integration program OK OTrip.

A lot of them had worked and lived in the capital for years but did not have Jakarta ID cards, Sandiaga said.

"We will give Jakarta ID cards to drivers who don't have them, because they have lived here for decades, some even since the 1970s," Sandiaga said on Thursday according to kompas.com.

The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency would be charged with issuing the cards, he added.

OK OTrip, the key program of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga, allows passengers to travel on numerous angkot and Transjakarta buses for a one-time fare of Rp 5,000 (35 US cents) to get from their starting point to their final destination. The Rp 5,000 fare is only valid for trips of up to three hours.

The angkot are to be integrated into the Transjakarta network.

However, the OK OTrip program is in limbo after five of seven angkot operators previously set to join the program have backed out, citing inadequate incentives provided by the city.

The operators are Kopamilet Jaya, Komilet Jaya, Komika, Kolamas Jaya and Purimas Jaya.

The two operators that are still committed to supporting the program are Budi Luhur and Koperasi Wahana Kalpika (KWK). (cal)
