est Java Police Insp. Gen. Agung Budi Maryoto has said he is committed to helping the Public Works and Housing Ministry finish road repairs in Puncak, Bogor, West Java.

Speaking during a road inspection in Puncak on Saturday, Budi said he hoped the roads would be repaired before this year’s Idul Fitri, which will fall on June 15 to 16.

“Puncak is a favorite tourist destination area for our people. I hope we can survey it again to determine which areas are prone to landslides to take necessary anticipatory measures before any accident occurs. So we will not be worried to travel through Puncak to celebrate Idul Fitri,” said Budi.

The road near Riung Gunung and the Pinus curve were heavily damaged after landslides hit Puncak. Street vendors have continued to carry out their business activities in the area. Garbage and construction materials have clogged the drainage system built under the curved road, making it more prone to landslides.

Thorik of the Public Works and Housing Ministry said the road along the Puncak Pass route would be widened to accommodate vehicles traveling in both directions.

Speaking on road repairs near Riung Gunung and the Pinus curve, he said the ministry was first waiting for results of soil checks conducted by the West Java Public Works and Housing Agency's Road and Bridge Center laboratory. (ebf)
