tate-owned construction company PT Waskita Karya president director M. Cholig has said the government would reshuffle the company's board of directors during a shareholders meeting on April 6.
Cholid, who has led the company for 10 years, said he was among those who would be replaced. The company is currently in the spotlight because of a series of accidents that have occurred on its projects.
“I have lead the company for 10 years. Even without these (accidents), I would be replaced,” said Cholid in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kontan.co.id.
Regarding the work accidents, including the latest, the collapse of a pier-head framework at the Becakayu toll road construction site that caused the government to halt all elevated projects, he said his company needed to reduce its production load to ease its burden.
Choliq admitted that the company's increased production had caused “a bit of negligence” in regards to work safety measures. He explained that when he took office the value of the company's projects ranged between Rp 10 trillion (US$700 million) and Rp 15 trillion annually.
“But in 2017, the value of our production was Rp 45 trillion. We need more sophisticated safety measures,” he said as reported by kompas.com.
In addition to the collapse at the Becakayu toll road project site on Feb. 20, other high profile accidents involving Waskita Karya include the collapse of double-double tracks (DDT) of the Jakarta-Cikarang railway project on Feb. 4 and the collapse of girders at the Depok-Antasari toll road construction site in early January.
