o optimize its services across the archipelagic province, the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police's traffic unit will launch a mobile registration facility for local residents.
The Mobile Marine Traffic Service (Pahala) will allow residents scattered across the province's coastal areas and 284 small islands, where access to public services remains problematic, to extend their driver's licenses as well as vehicle registrations through mobile service units, said NTB Police traffic unit head Sr. Comr. Arman Achdiat.
The targeted residents were mainly fisherfolk who also used motorcycles to travel across the islands, Arman added. The traffic unit would collaborate with the local Sea and Coast Guard Unit to implement the program.
"We will use boats from the coast guard unit to serve the residents," Arman told reporters on Tuesday.
Prior to the Pahala program, the NTB traffic unit had launched a mobile vehicle registration facility called Samsat Keliling on the province's two largest islands, Lombok and Sumbawa.
"However, [Samsat Keliling's] coverage extended only to residents who live on the outskirts of [the two main islands]," said Arman, adding that the police were unable to serve its coastal and island residents because of the facility's limited geographical reach.
The Pahala program has been tested in a pre-launch pilot, and is scheduled for a full public launch before May. (dpk/ipa)
