T

he Tangerang District Court has granted the request of a father to officially change his name from Kentut to Ihsan Hadi following a complaint from his son.

Kentut literally means fart.

Judge Elly Istianawati, who presided over the case, read out the verdict on Monday morning, to which Ihsan responded by performing sujud syukur (prostration of thankfulness) several times in the courtroom, tribunnews.com reported.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God) the court granted my request. I am very happy. I will feel more confident and my son will not be embarrassed anymore because his father now has a decent name," the 30-year-old noodle seller said.

Ihsan said his son often refused to go to school because his friends frequently teased him about his father's unusual name.

Ihsan went on to say that his parents – for no clear reason – had decided to name him Kentut when he was born in Surakarta, Central Java, in 1988.

He said he had wanted to change his name since he was a child, but no one in his village knew the legal procedure. "So I had to live with the name for years," Ihsan previously said.

Ihsan, who has lived in Tangerang for the past 10 years with his wife and three children, filed the request with the Tangerang District Court on Monday. (fac/evi)
