T

housand Islands Police have questioned 15 witnesses in their investigation into any possible signs of neglect in an explosion on a boat operated by the Jakarta Transportation Agency near the main pier of Panggang Island, which injured nine passengers.

“We will investigate whether there are any possible signs of neglect that caused the explosion, or if it was purely an engine failure,” Thousand Islands Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Victor Siagian said on Monday as reported by tempo.co.

Victor said the 15 witnesses were agency employees as well as the vessel’s crew who were attending a local festival in Panggang Island.

“We have questioned 15 people. Nine people are transportation agency employees and six crew members,” he said.

On Sunday at 10.20 a.m. the vessel exploded shortly after the engine was turned on. The vessel was due to transport the passengers to Pramuka Island. (ami)
