akarta Police have shot dead a man, LI, who allegedly planned the mugging of a woman in West Jakarta. The victim was reportedly locked inside a ride-hailing vehicle for seven hours. Two of the dead suspect’s alleged accomplices had been arrested earlier.

The arrested suspects, in their 20s, were identified as LI, SN and AP.

West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi said LI had resisted arrest in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Thursday at 5 a.m. Police officers then fired the shots that killed LI.

“He was the mastermind of the crime. His body is currently at the morgue,” Hengki said on Thursday at Kramatjati Police Hospital in East Jakarta as reported by kompas.com.

He said police arrested LI’s alleged partners in crime, SN and AP, in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Wednesday at 10 p.m., and extracted information regarding LI’s whereabouts from the two suspects.

The suspects have been charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on violent robbery with a maximum prison sentence of nine years and Article 285 on attempted rape with a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.

Previously, a 24-year-old female resident of Tambora was reportedly robbed while inside a GrabCar minivan on the way to her office in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Monday morning. The suspects allegedly threatened to kill the passenger and stole her necklace, bracelet, mobile phone and money before dropping her off near her house in the afternoon. (ami)
