Ministry offers clarification over talk between Minister Rini, PLN CEO

he State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry has offered clarification over a tape circulating of a conversation reportedly between SOEs Minister Rini Soemarno and state-owned electricity company PLN president Director Sofyan Basir.
The ministry denied the talk was about “fee distribution” in a statement on Monday.
SOEs Ministry secretary Imam Apriyanto confirmed the tape was a recording of a talk between Rini and Sofyan, but that the recording had been edited to mislead people.
“In the discussion, SOEs Minister Rini Soemarno and PLN president director Sofyan Basir agree to assure that the investment will give maximum benefits to both PLN and the state, not vice versa to burden PLN,” said Imam in the statement.
He said the full conversation would show that Sofyan said PLN wanted to take part in a project on the condition that the company would have a significant stake so that it would have control over the project.
Imam said in the talk, Rini wanted to offer assurance that SOEs would have a significant role in government projects.
The project could not be realized because both PLN and Pertamina were not convinced that they could offer maximum benefits to the companies, he added.
Imam said the ministry would take legal action against those who distributed the tape. (bbn)
