outh Jakarta Mayor Tri Kurniadi said on Tuesday that the administration would remove bird and fruit vendors that occupy an area near Langsat Park in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
The vendors, who were once evicted from Ayodya Park, are set to be relocated to a park near Jl. Leuser, also in South Jakarta.
Tri said the shops currently at Langsat Park were in bad condition, while some vendors also lived at their shops.
“Some use them as their residence. That’s not allowed,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
The vendors at Langsat Park are also known as Barito vendors because they used to be located nearby Jl. Barito. Selling flowers, fruits and pet birds, they remained in the area for decades before being evicted in 2008, when the administration wanted to build Ayodya Park.
They were later relocated to the nearby Langsat Park.
