tate-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina is set to resume supplying 1,926 gas stations in Java, Madura and Bali with subsidized Premium gasoline, after having previously stopped supplying the gas stations with the fuel, claiming that customers preferred using non-subsidized fuel.
The move was made in response to a government request, as customers in several areas had complained about a lack of Premium gas.
According to the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), there are 3,306 gas stations in Java, Madura and Bali.
“We will prepare for the quota that had already been set by the government. […] Our target is to make the fuel available anytime people need Premium,” said Pertamina supply chain, logistics and infrastructure director Ghandi Sriwidodo in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.
Gandhi claimed that customers, including motorcyclists and drivers of public minivans, preferred using Pertalite non-subsidized gas.
“In fact, the customers have changed. Motorcyclists have used Pertalite and some minivan drivers have also shifted to Pertalite,” he said, adding that the customers believed Pertalite was of better quality.
However, it was reported that at a number of gas stations, customers, particularly public minivan drivers, preferred using Premium because of its price, with RON-88 Premium sold at Rp 6,550 (47 US cents) per liter and RON-90 Pertalite sold at Rp 7,800. (bbn)
