head of the Asian Games, the Jakarta administration has planned to clean up the Item River, located near the Athletes Village in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
The Item River, both popularly referred to and literally a black river, is severely polluted and has a pungent smell.
The city’s Water Resources Agency head Teguh Hendarwan said the agency would use nanobubble technology to purify the river's water.
“Nanobubble technology has the ability to recycle water in the river. The water would be processed until it’s clear and odorless,” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.
The agency, Teguh added, would also dredge sediment from the river using heavy-duty equipment.
He went on saying his agency would collaborate with the city's Environment Agency and the Forestry Agency. (vla)
