A teenager, identified as AF, died in Bekasi after allegedly attempting to mug other teenagers.

The 17-year-old was reportedly killed by his alleged victim using his very own sickle.

Bekasi Police spokesperson Comr. Erna Ruswing Andari said AF and his friend IY, 17, allegedly attempted to mug two teenagers, MIB and AR, while passing Jl. Raya Perjuangan on May 23 at midnight.

“AF and IY had allegedly injured their victims. But suddenly, one of the victims [MIB] snatched AF’s sickle and attacked them in self-defense,” Erna said as quoted by tempo.co recently.

AF and IY, who were severely injured, then ran to Anna Media Hospital in North Bekasi. AF died from severe bleeding, while IY is receiving medical treatment.

MIB has been named as suspect by the Bekasi Police for allegedly attacking and killing AF.

“But we should investigate the case further. MIB might get his suspect status removed if it is proven that he was acting in self-defense,” said Bekasi Police crime unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Jarius Saragih on Monday.

“We’ll summons several expert witnesses to help us decide [MIB’s status],” he added, noting that the investigation was expected to be completed within the week. (vla)
