uspended Jambi Governor Zumi Zola has requested to be named a justice collaborator for a graft case in which he himself is the primary suspect.
The request was lodged by Zumi's lawyer earlier this month, according to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah.
He said the KPK would consider Zumi's commitment as a justice collaborator – which would allow him to provide further evidence in exchange for leniency – before approving his request.
“For a start, he can show his commitment by admitting what he has done,” Febri said, referring Zumi’s alleged receiving of Rp 6 billion (US$ 427,200) in bribes in a number of projects across Jambi.
The KPK has also named Jambi Public Works Agency head Arfan a suspect in the case.
It is believed that Zumi and Arfan were planning to use the money to bribe regional councillors and influence their decision in deliberating the provincial budget.
Febri said Zumi might be able to reveal more potential suspects in the case.
However, the KPK might reject the request if Zumi failed to prove his commitment in solving the case.
“We have a lot of experience [dealing] with justice collaborators,” Febri said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday. (dpk/swd)
