T

he Niaga Building in the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) commercial complex, where the annual Jakarta Fair is held, in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Some people are reportedly trapped in the building.

Smoke spewed into the sky from the building located on Jl. Benyamin Sueb.

Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency head Hardisiswan said 18 fire trucks had been deployed to tackle the fire.

"They've been trying to put out the fire since 5 p.m.," he said as quoted by kompas.com.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known. (vla)
