J

akarta Governor Anies Baswedan, speaking in sign language, wished everyone a happy Idul Fitri in a video posted on his official Instagram account on Friday.

"Assalamualaikum, I am Anies Baswedan. [On behalf of Jakarta administration] we wish you a happy Idul Fitri. We ask for forgiveness. I hope our good deeds during Ramadhan will be well-received by Allah. Amen," Anies said in sign language, as translated by an in-video caption.

In the caption, Anies said Indonesians were the only people who asked for forgiveness after the conclusion of the fasting month of Ramadhan. "Idul Fitri is a message to embolden one's faith and piousness, which is then concluded with humility by asking for forgiveness.

"Allow us to accept and convey the message to each other, with everyone," Anies signed.

On Friday, Anies performed the Idul Fitri prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta. After the prayer, he met with his deputy, Sandiaga Uno, several members of the Jakarta Regional Representative Council and officials from the Jakarta administration at City Hall. He also met with citizens who had performed Idul Fitri prayer there. (rfa)
