akarta City Hall will host an open house next Thursday to allow members of the public to celebrate Idul Fitri with city administration officials after the holiday period ends.

"We will host [an open house gathering] on June 21 [when the holiday for civil servants ends] at City Hall. It will be open to the public," Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

The remarks came after he previously announced that there would be no open house at City Hall because civil servants must be allowed to enjoy their holiday without having to go to the office.

Former Jakarta governors such as Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Fauzi Bowo held open houses at City Hall on the first day of Idul Fitri every year. Members of the public could attend and meet the governor and eat meals provided by the city administration.

On Friday, Sandiaga attended an open house gathering hosted by Jokowi at the Bogor Palace on the outskirts of Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan also plans to open his doors to guests to celebrate Idul Fitri at his residence on Saturday. (rfa/ipa)
