he former treasurer of the Democratic Party who was convicted for corruption related to the Southeast Asian Games athletes village project in 2011, Muhammad Nazaruddin, was granted a two-month remission for Idul Fitri on Friday.
Sukamiskin Penitentiary head Wahid Husem said Nazaruddin was among the 68 inmates who received remissions this year.
"There are no other high-profile inmates who received remission [aside from Nazaruddin]," Wahid said as quoted by Antara.
Wahid said other high-profile inmates in the prison in Bandung, including Andi Malaranggeng, Lutfi Hasan Ishak, Akil Mochtar, Dada Rosasda and Anas Urbaningrum, did not receive the Idul Fitri remission.
Wahid cited Nazaruddin's good behavior as a consideration for granting him a sentence reduction, adding that Nazaruddin's status as a justice collaborator also contributed to the decision.
Another official, Munadhiroh, said Nazaruddin had received remission six times, amounting to a 30-month sentence reduction since his verdict in 2013. (dmr)
