he Presidential Palace has explained the unusual sighting of a pedicab driver wearing shorts and sandals at President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s open house at Bogor Palace on Friday.
Thousands of residents were queueing since the early morning on the day of Idul Fitri to join the traditional open house event. Many came in plain clothes that went against the palace’s strict dress code.
“Well, Lebaran [Idul Fitri] is a special day,” Heru Budi Hartono, head of the Presidential Secretariat, said Sunday, as quoted by tempo.co.
The palace in Bogor, West Java, normally imposes a strict dress code for visitors, such as men having to wear a shirt, long trousers that are not jeans and shoes, whereas women have to wear a sleeved blouse and a dress no shorter than the knee, or long trousers.
But Heru explained the palace wanted to make the event more accessible in celebration of Lebaran, including by allowing visitors to enter in casual clothing.
“Thousands of visitors came, from various backgrounds. Let them wear whatever,” he said. (nor)
