he United Kingdom government has announced a change to its immigration rules, allowing Indonesians to get a student visa more easily.
The UK Visas and Immigration agency will have fewer documentary requirements for Tier 4 student visa applicants from Indonesian nationals under the changes, which were announced Tuesday.
The documents no longer required are: evidence of finances, qualifications and evidence of English language ability.
This new regulation will come into effect on Jul. 6.
In addition, Indonesian students will be eligible to benefit from the new rule whether they apply for the visa from within Indonesia or elsewhere.
Nonetheless, Indonesian students still need to meet all requirements for the Tier 4 visa route. UK Visas & Immigration reserves the right to request evidence of this, and will do so for a random sample of applications, according to a press statement.
“This simplification of the UK visa process for Indonesian students is great news for thousands of young people starting courses this autumn and for those considering a UK education in years to come. I am proud that the quality of our education system is continuing to attract the brightest and best from Indonesia; and grateful for the contribution they make to education in Britain,” said British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik as quoted in the statement.
This new arrangement will also apply to students from several other countries, such as the United States, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
As of March 2018, the UK government had issued around 2,500 Tier 4 visas to Indonesian students. Of those who applied, 96 percent were successful. (dmr)
