The return to Jakarta was made into a festive event in the seaport, which hired a dangdut performance to welcome the passengers.
Tanjung Emas Seaport terminal supervisor, Sularyo, said besides Dobonsolo, the port had prepared a number of smaller ships to offer the free ride to hundreds of others.
The passengers had to register at Mudik Gratis website, owned by the Transportation Ministry, to get the free seat and free space for the motorcycles. The government offered free spaces on ships to reduce the number of families going to their hometowns and back using their motorcycles. (evi)
