According to an official at the Kebayoran Baru sub-sector II of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, Sartono Perwira, the fire was allegedly caused by a 10-year-old who was playing with matches.
“The lit match burned a mattress and soon spread to the ceiling and surrounding buildings including a tire patching business and a health clinic,” he said Friday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Local residents immediately tried to put the fire out, but to no avail.
Minutes later 16 fire trucks were deployed to the area.
The fire was extinguished at 8:20 p.m. (iwa)
