"We have to enforce the law if there are violations," Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said as quoted by tempo.co. on Tuesday.
He added that Monday's inspection at nightclub 108 The New Atmosphere in Central Jakarta was part of the administration's initiative to crack down on drug trade and other crimes at entertainment centers.
"We hope that there will no longer be drug trade, prostitution and illegal activities at entertainment centers," he said. "We want the city to be safe for the upcoming Asian Games."
Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel carried out an inspection at 108 The New Atmosphere on Monday to verify whether the club had the proper operational permits.
The entertainment center's permits were up to date, according to Satpol PP head Yani Wahyu. (rfa)
