Anies appoints new Jakarta mayors, regent in latest reshuffle

akarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated several city officials, including mayors and a regent, at City Hall on Thursday as part of his latest reshuffle.

The governor was previously given the green light from the City Council to name new mayors and a regent in Jakarta.

Anies said that the changes in leadership were expected to improve public services. 

"God willing, through the [reshuffle], the Jakarta administration can be more solid and mature in working," the former education minister told reporters on Thursday morning as reported by kompas.com.

The chairman of the City Council's Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, Gembong Warsono, previously said that councillors had approved the names proposed by the administration. 

The governor inaugurated Bayu Megantara as Central Jakarta mayor, replacing Mangara Pardede.

Jakarta Employment Agency head Syamsudin Lologau was inaugurated as North Jakarta mayor, replacing Husein Murad, who became the Thousand Islands regent. 

Meanwhile Rustam Effendi, the former North Jakarta mayor who stepped down from his post during the administration of Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, was inaugurated as West Jakarta mayor, replacing Anas Effendi. 

East Jakarta deputy mayor, M. Anwar, was promoted to mayor of the municipality.

The city's deputy for tourism, Marullah Matali, became the South Jakarta mayor, replacing Tri Kurniadi. (fac)
