3-month-old baby has been taken to city-owned Tunas Bangsa Orphanage after being abandoned by her mother at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta.

“After three months, neither the girl’s mother nor any family members have come to pick her up. We sent her to the orphanage where her basic needs can be met,” Sutikno, an official from the South Jakarta Social Affairs Agency’s social treatment, observation and control (P3S) taskforce, said on Thursday as reported by kompas.com.

He said the baby’s mother, identified as Wiwied, had told the hospital that she wanted to briefly leave the hospital to look for her husband.

“After she gave birth, Wiwied said she wanted to search for her husband. The hospital let her, and they haven't heard from her since,” he said.

The baby was taken to the Jakarta Social Affairs Agency’s orphanage after it became clear that she had been abandoned.

Residents of Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, had found Wiwied in their neighborhood during the late stages of her pregnancy. She was not carrying any form of identification at the time.

She was taken to Pesanggrahan Hospital, which then referred her to Fatmawati Hospital where she received intensive care.

“Wiwied gave birth smoothly at Fatmawati Hospital,” Sutikno said. (ami/wit)
